King's College London Mathematics School (KCLMS) is led by Head Teacher Timothy Bateup, who took up the role in September 2023. Before joining KCLMS, he was Head of Mathematics at City of London School for Girls and has more than a decade of experience in mathematics education.
A Mathematics graduate from the University of Warwick, Mr Bateup has focused his career on helping students develop strong mathematical thinking and encouraging participation in advanced mathematics from a wide range of backgrounds. Under his leadership, KCLMS has continued its record of academic success. The school is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialist mathematics schools and was named Sixth Form College of the Year for Academic Excellence by The Sunday Times.
Students attending KCLMS Hong Kong programmes benefit from the school's approach to mathematics education, including its emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and academic challenge. Through direct involvement from KCLMS teachers, participants gain insight into the teaching methods and culture that have contributed to the school's success. Mr Bateup looks forward to meeting and working with students in Asia this summer, supporting their development as mathematicians and problem-solvers.
